Exploring Cumberland Island
Georgia is home to many unique historic locations. One of my favorites is Cumberland Island. Located just off the coast of St. Marys, it’s one of the most secluded and remote spots that you c
Natural Splendor on Cumberland Island
A short ferry ride from the crowded mainland, Georgia’s Cumberland Island is a land unto itself: 17 1/2 miles of pristine woodland, marsh, and beaches, dotted with the occasional historic building or ruin. In a setting with more wildlife than people, Guy Trebay finds excellent ways to do plenty of nothing.
Marsh on Cumberland Island GA 8 x 10 fine art photo signed | Etsy
Each time I look at this photograph, I wish I were back on Cumberland Island--one of the most magical places I've ever been. Here you can see hundreds of sea and shore birds, wild horses, dolphins, armadillos, and sea turtles. Once home to the Carnegie clan (whose descendants still summer there), Cumberland is now managed by the National Park Service, and access is severely limited. But you can make a reservation to camp there, or you can take a day trip on the ferry from St. Marys, GA…

Spreading Live Oak on Cumberland Island GA 8 x 10 fine art | Etsy

Of many tree shots I took that day, this is one of my favorites. This listing is for an unframed 8 x 10 in. color print, professionally printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper. It will be labelled, dated, and signed on…
St Marys, Georgia
August 16, 2010 When passing through this portion of the ICW, we usually anchor just off Cumberland Island and visit the national park there by dinghy. However this trip we decide to visit St Marys Georgia, a quiet little town just 2 miles up the St Marys river. St Marys is a historic town adjacent to the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base and also hosts the visitors center for the Cumberland Island National Park. A few street scenes from walking around the town. The Spencer Inn (ca 1872)…

Our Visit to Cumberland Island Georgia
Cumberland Island is one of the largest undeveloped barrier islands along the Atlantic coast. The island has one of the largest maritime forests remaining in the United States and one of the largest wilderness areas in a National Seashore on the east coast. It has always been a dream of mine to visit Cumberland Island. Since I was a child I have loved and been fascinated by horses. Cumberland Island is home to several small herds of feral horses. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived on…
