Faith Bacon, 1931  A popular burlesque dancer whose star faded. In 1956, she was walking calmly down the 4th story stairs of her hotel when she suddenly opened a window. A friend grabbed at her skirt, but she tore away and jumped. Her body landed on the roof of a one-story saloon next door. She was 46 years old. Her friend told reporters that Bacon wanted the spotlight again. She would have taken any kind of work in show business.

On December 28, 1890, units of the U.S. Seventh Cavalry captured a group of Minneconjou Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek in southwestern South Dakota. The next day, as the Indians surrendered their weapons, a shot rang out, and then all the cavalry opened fire. At least 153 of the Sioux were killed (some estimate 300, out of about 350) -- most of them women, children, and unarmed men.

The massacres in Piaśnica were a set of mass executions carried out by Germans, during WW2, between the fall of 1939 and spring of 1940 in Piasnica Wielka in the Darzlubska Wilderness near Wejherowo. The exact number of people murdered is unknown, but estimates range between 12,000 and 16,000 victims. Most of them were Polish intellectuals from Gdańsk Pomerania, but Poles, Jews, Czechs and German inmates from mental hospitals from General Government and the Third Reich were also murdered.
