This is the Lífsstafur (Lifsstafur - life’s stave / stave of life) found in the 1940 publication “Galdra-skræða Skuggi” by Icelandic scholar Jochums M Eggertssonar. There is not anything written beyond to the title, however the Icelandic definition of “life” relates more to the state of being alive than that of a way of life or living. It can also mean one’s body, even body and soul, thus it could be regarded as a symbol to keep you alive and healthy.

Redden the oaken one with blood of the husband and birch with the wife's blood. Tie both with a red string and bury it near your front door. Remember to toast for Thor and Frigga before committing it to the ground.
