P/O Karel "Charlie" Mrázek flew with No 46 Squadron RAF on 11 November 1940 when… Ww2 Aircraft, Military Aircraft, Home Guard, Hawker Hurricane, Ww2 Planes, Battle Of Britain, Royal Air Force, Aviators, World War Two

P/O Karel "Charlie" Mrázek flew with No 46 Squadron RAF on 11 November 1940 when he fell behind in Hurricane Mk I PO-M due to partial engine failure. Sighting a number of bogeys identified as BR20 bombers, the 29-year-old Czech destroyed 2 of the CR42 fighter escort. The first biplane fell into the sea 4m and the second 3m from Ofordness. After the combat he recrossed the coast to land at RAF Rochester, with empty tanks and 10 machine gun holes in his wings and fuselage.

He was credited with an Me 109 destroyed over northern France on 30 April 1942 and an Fw 190 damaged on another sweep on the day. He was killed in combat in a Spitfire Mk Vc on 18 November when the aircraft was hit by flak over Lannion airfield and crashed into the Channel close to the French coastline.
