Part of a mummy board The ancient Egyptians sometimes placed openwork boards decorated with figures of gods over the mummified body to help protect it. This fragment shows the jackal-headed god of the underworld, Anubis holding a scepter. Before him stands the dead person, named Iwf-en-amun. To make the board holy, it was coated in a yellow sacred resin on the front and black resin on the back. Late Dynasty 20 ~ early Dynasty 21 (1143 BC ~ 991 BC) Wood, plaster, paint, resin.
