Part I. Jan Zizka (1360-1424) He was a member of the minor nobility of some social standing. Zizka lost an eye in childhood; perhaps a teenage fight. Entered the service of Vaclav IV, as a hunter. Nobility on both sides engaged in pillage and guerilla warfare during civil strife. He fought at the Battle of Gruneberg - Tannenberg - where King Jagiello of Poland and Lithuania turned back the Teutonic Knights.
